Kathie asks:

I literally have a loose screw & my crown is wobbling. The post is strong & not moving. My periodontist has not left a hole to access the screw to re-torque. What are my options to correct this & save my $10,000 implant?

Hi Kathie,

If the crown is mobile it may be caused by a loose screw or a broken abutment. In some cases a hole can be carefully drilled in the top of a cement retained crown to gain access to the abutment screw and trouble shoot things.

Unfortunately, there is always a risk of porcelain fracture when doing this and if the problem turns out to be associated with the actual abutment, the crown will have to be remade anyway.

I would recommend working with your doctor as soon as possible to solve this problem which will help prevent possible bacterial contamination around this loose crown and compromise to the implant.
