General Anesthesia for Dental Implant Surgery?

Question:

Larry asks:

Do I need general anesthesia for one implant for front tooth #9? A lot of people just had local anesthesia and they were fine and did not feel anything. Don't know why this oral surgeon wants to do general anesthesia for my one tooth implant. Somehow, I am afraid of general anesthesia. Thanks.

Hi Larry,

I have been placing implants for 15+ years and have never needed to use general anesthesia for the procedure. There are some patients who are very nervous who might benefit from general anesthesia, but if you are not one of them, I would just ask the surgeon if he/she can perform the procedure with local anesthesia.
