Hi Kathy,

Crowns that are placed on top of the dental implants can be made of different materials. Most common are porcelain fused to metal. Fees vary depending on the laboratory, materials used (type of metal), esthetics (customized coloring) and the skills of the dentist.

Most crowns on implants last 15+ years. The reason that most crowns fail on natural teeth is due to decay, since implants do not decay crowns can last much longer. If however there is discoloration then you may elect to replace the crown earlier.

Another reason for crown replacement is fracture of the material. In my practice I have many patients with implant crowns that are in place for more than 20 years.
