Hi Julie,

The causes for migraine headaches are not well known. There are many types of migraine headaches. However, there is no documented evidence that dental implants can cause migraine headaches.

Migraine headaches can be related to neurological issues involving the trigeminal nerve. Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction can also cause headache pain. Before having a dental implant or implants placed, thereby adding another factor into the diagnostic mix, evaluation by a neurologist to help determine the cause and appropriate treatment for your migraines would be an excellent precaution.

Bear in mind that a dental implant is almost always 15mm or less in length and usually less than 6mm in diameter. The implant is completely encased in the bone of the jaw. Therefore there is almost no possibility that a properly, or even an improperly placed titanium dental implant could be the cause of migraine headaches.
