Peter asks:
When I get dental implants, what is insuring the sealing of the line gums/implant to stop any kind of infiltration or infection?
Hi Peter,
When you get an implant, after the surgical area has healed and the implant is restored, your body creates a tight adaptation of the gum tissue around the implant that acts as a seal to prevent microorganisms present in your mouth from damaging the supporting tissues (the gums and the bone) and causing an infection.
This seal is not neglect-proof and your body needs a little help in maintaining it healthy.
Adequate plaque control in the form of brushing, flossing and regular professional care is needed to keep the tissues healthy.
If you were referring to what seals during the healing of the surgery, the gums effectively use the clotting and healing processes to seal the wound until healing occurs.
Hope this helps.
