Expert Advice for Dental Implants

Can Mini Implants Support My Failing Bridge?

Question:

Patrick asks:

I recently had two support teeth for a bottom permanent bridge go bad. The dentist said that he could not reattach them and tried to sell me a denture. He does not do implants. I saw the information on Mini implants and was wondering if they could be used to hold in the current device which is in excellent shape. I know for a fact that I can support implants because I have been tested.

Dear Patrick,

Without X rays or an exam it is difficult to answer your question. However, in general, a loose device, such as the bridge you describe, cannot be retrofitted for any dental implants. A bridge is made for the supporting structure in place at the time. Therefore, a new bridge would have to be made so that everything fits correctly.

As for mini dental implants, they do have their place to support either a bridge or removable denture., so they are potentially an option in your case. However, a cone beam CT scan would best indicate the bone levels and what would work best in your situation.
