Can I Wear My Retainer After I Get an Implant?

Question:

Adam asks:
I currently wear a retainer that has a false tooth attached to it to fill in the space where I am missing a tooth. Would it be possible to continue wearing my retainer after I get an implant during the osseointegration process? I would hate to go around for months with a large gap in the front of my mouth!

Hi Adam,

There should be no problem at all with you wearing this type of retainer after you get your implant. Moreover, if the dentist needs to adjust the undersurface of the partial (retainer) it should be an easy fix. So you don't need to worry about going around with a large gap for months.
