Dear Barbara:

The answer to your question is a definite yes! An overdenture with implants will be much better than a regular denture.

Persons who wear a regular denture loose bone, and this bone is the only support that the denture has. There is a marked reduction in the ability to chew food, and the diet has to be limited to softer foods that will be less likely to hurt the gums while chewing.

One of the biggest advantages of an overdenture with implants is that the implants will prevent you from loosing the bone. But the advantages that are easily appreciated are that the overdenture can be held by the implants so it does not slip out of place easily and it can also be supported by the implants, in which case it will feel like you are biting with solid support instead of pressing against the gums.

Patients that go from a regular denture to an overdenture on implants are always happier patients.
