Question:

Winona asks:
I have been wearing full upper denture for 25 yrs now. I am considering an implant for myself. However, I'm a salesperson and need to meet with clients all the time. After implant surgery, will I be without teeth for awhile? Thanks and appreciate it.

Hi Winona,

Absolutely not! A qualified implant surgeon, a periodontist or oral surgeon with a three year residency in surgery, are specifically trained to adequately treatment plan your case to avoid this very problem. No implant patient should ever have to go without teeth.

The only issue to overcome is to be sure that whatever type/style of temporary or transitional teeth are worn, that these do not traumatize or put undue pressure upon an osseointegration/healing implant. Your surgeon or periodontist will be able to address this issue.
