How Much Bone is Needed for a Molar Implant?

How many mm. of bone are usually required to place a molar implant? Will have to do a sinus elevation also?

Hi Victor,

There are potentially many different answers to your question, but the rule of thumb is that there needs to be enough bone to stabilize the implant.

Often times, 7-10mm is enough bone to place the implant without a conventional "sinus lift" procedure. In our office, I use a procedure called the "summers technique" to place implants in areas where the bone is of minimal thickness. A "sinus lift" is required when there is no bone at all to anchor the implant.
