Mini Dental Implants: Are These Placed Immediately or Do I Wait?

Question:

Randy Asks:
I am considering a lower mini dental implant procedure. However, I need to have several teeth extracted. Can the mini dental implant procedure be performed immediately after the extractions or if not how long would you recommend waiting?

Dear Randy:

It is difficult to answer this question completely without additional information about what kind of mini implant procedure you are considering. Nevertheless, I will try to answer this as best as I can.

Mini implants are normally done when the person is edentulous (has no teeth) and requires usually four mini implants to be placed in the front part of the jaw to help hold a denture more securely.

Even the smallest tooth in the mouth has a larger root than the diameter of a mini implant, so a mini implant is not placed immediately after an extraction the way a regular implant can be placed.

I hope this helps, but without more information, I cannot be more specific.

Good luck.
