Using a Blood Thinner: Can I Get Dental Implants?

I am currently taking Coumadin (warfarin) as a blood thinner (anticoagulant). Can I get dental implants while I am on this blood thinning medication?

Hi Raja,

While your question is valid, the answer depends on many factors, including the dose of coumadin you are taking and the reason for its use. Any surgical procedure should take your ability to heal into account, and often we will have you discontinue your use of coumadin for a period before your implant surgery.

Because I have no knowledge of your medical history or current medical condition, unfortunately I cannot offer an answer.

I would discuss the situation with both your physician and your implant surgeon. I would further have these two clinicians discuss the issue with each other.
