Bone Graft: How Long Do I Wait Before Getting Implants?

Question:

Cindy asks:

I just had a tooth extracted due to a root fracture and my periodontist used a Puros Bone Allograft on tooth Number #5. It is my understanding that in four to five months this area will be ready for an implant. Is this true? Is there any difference between a synthetic material or actual human bone, when it comes to the waiting period for implants after a graft?

Hi Cindy,

Yes, that is true. I typically wait 5-6 months after such a bone graft. The type of material does not make much difference in the waiting period. Five to Six months after any type of bone graft material is accepted.
