Abutment is Loose and I Can't Contact My Dentist: What Can I Do?

Question:

Paul asks:
The dentist who put in my implant in is now retired and cannot be contacted. The problem is that I think the abutment is loose. Will another dentist have difficulty knowing how to help me if he doesn't know exactly what dental implant model/system was used by my first dentist? How can I get the information about what implant system is in my mouth?

Hi Paul,

You should address a loose dental implant abutment as soon as possible. Any experienced dentist who has sufficient experience with dental implants will be able to help you.

They have universal kits of drivers (these are the little screwdrivers that tighten and loosen implant screws for just about any system) and should be able to help you.

The longer you wait, the more likely the screw retaining the abutment will fracture, or worse yet, the implant, itself, can fracture.
