Acrylic for Dental Implant Restoration: Is This the Best Material to Use?

Question:

Robert asks:

I would like to know what material choices there are to be used for the restoration (prosthesis) for mandibular, or lower teeth, dental implants. Right now, I have acrylic on the bottoms and would like know if there is anything better that could be used? Thanks.

material choices for restorations

Answered By: Dr. H. Ryan Kazemi - Bethesda , MD

The restorations for single crowns or bridges supported by implants are usually porcelain fused to metal or ceramics. The restorations for full dentures / prosthesis supported by implants may be either porcelain or acrylic with metal substructure if it is made in a hybrid or bridge fashion. If it is an overdenture (removable) then it is made from acrylic material.
