Nena asks:
I just read your advice about the difference between regular implants and mini dental implants. What I'm wondering thought, is what is the difference in price between regular implants and mini dental implants? I had a regular implant about a year ago in my upper right and the cost was about $6,000. I now need an implant in my upper left, and I can't afford the same fee again. So I'm hoping that maybe a mini dental implant will cost less than a regular implant? Thanks.
Cost of Mini Dental Implants vs. Regular Implants?
Dear Nena:
Regular implants and mini implants are not interchangeable.
There are situations where you may be able to use a mini implant instead of a regular implant, but, in general, mini implants have a small diameter and are indicated when space is limited or the ridge is very thin.
Recently there has been a trend to use these mini implants in place of the regular implants, but the studies to show their longevity in these situations are not available.
For a single tooth, the cost will not be much different since the only difference is in the implant itself which is ussually half the cost for the mini implant, but the abutment(post) and the crown are the same.
Hope this helps and good luck!

cost between mini or regular dental implants
Hi
I do not recommend mini dental implants as they are associated with significant complications and low success rate. As Dr. Boudet indicated, they are not interchangeable. For optimal prognosis and success, I recommend regular dental implants. While, it is higher cost, it offers lifetime success. Mini implant will not.
