Andy asks:
I am hoping this question is not too general, but I'm wondering under what conditions can one have an extraction, a dental implant placed and and a provisional crown done, all in one day? Can anyone get this for any part of the mouth? Thanks for any clarification you can give me.
Do you feel like a dummy when it comes to dental implants? Don't worry. We can help. Below are popular posts for those just starting out with implants.
Dental Implants All in One Day: Under What Conditions?
Dear Andy:
You can have an extraction, the implant placed and a provisional crown all the same day.
Assuming you have no contraindications for an implant, there should be some conditions that should be met.
The implant should be rigidly held by the bone and this can be measured by the dentist at the time of placement.
The provisional crown should be protected by the adjacent teeth, so that you cannot put pressure on it or touch it when you bite together or slide your teeth around.
You should avoid biting or eating with it.
You should keep it clean while it heals.
It is not indicated in the back teeth, only in the smile area.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
