Lisa asks:
I had a tooth with a root canal and the root broke. Therefore, the tooth had to be extracted. I intend, when it is healed, to have a dental implant put in. Is a bone graft standard procedure in this case? Also, I have had Zometa infusions 2x in the past 6 months due to another condition and I wonder if this will complicate the dental implant process. Thanks.
Do you feel like a dummy when it comes to dental implants? Don't worry. We can help. Below are popular posts for those just starting out with implants.
tooth with root canal do i need a graft?
Actually, the best time to have grafted the area would have been at the time of extraction. There is not nearly as much advantage to grafting after initial healing has taken place. Regarding your zometa infusions, are these the only two or has this been ongoing? If the only two, you are not at appreciable greater risk. If you have been on the medication for a longer period of time, be sure to discuss this with the dental surgeon you will have performing the procedure.
