Beth asks:
I have a full top denture. I have a partial but am thinking of having my front teeth extracted and mini implants to hold the two dentures in place. Can these "mini implants" be used to hold my dentures in my mouth permanently or do you still need to remove them for cleaning?
Hi Beth –
Thanks for the question. Dentures can be supported with both regular and "mini" type implants.
In order to determine which treatment would work best for you, a thorough diagnostic work-up should be completed, which should include impressions of your upper and lower jaws and an understanding of how they relate to each other during function.
It would be advisable to have CT or CBCT scanning technology to determine the quality and quantity of bone – which will help in determining where the implants can be placed. Then a decision can be made whether "mini" implants can successfully support your new teeth.

bone grafting
Wed, 08/18/2010 - 16:05 — Lucie (not verified)I was told I would need bone grafting before an implant can be done, as I have only 2mm bone left. Is it possible to avoid bone grafting with shorter implants?
I'm concerned about the possibility of chronic sinusitis after bonegrafting.
