Which Dentist Do I Go To for the Abutment on my Dental Implant?

Question:

Wayne asks:
I recently had two dental implants placed. My question is, can any dentist install the final abutment and crown? Is there some kind of specialist for this procedure? Thanks.

Which Dentist Do I Go To for the Abutment on my Dental Implant?

Answered By: Dr. Carlos Boudet - West Palm Beach , FL

Dear Wayne:
Normally, your general dentist is the first one to diagnose a problem, discuss any alternatives and plan a solution.
Most general dentists are very capable of restoring two implants with the final abutments and crowns.
If your general dentist has not been involved in the planning of these implants, you can do several things:
1 Ask him (or her) if he is knowledgeable and does restore implants.
2 Ask the surgeon who placed the implants for a referral.
3 Do a search on the internet for qualified dentists in your areathat restore implants.
4 Ask family or friends for a referral.
Again, general dentists restore implants routinely, but if you would like to go to a specialist, you can go to a prosthodontist.
