Food Getting Under Hybrid Dentures When I Eat: Is this Normal?

Answered By: Dr. Carlos Boudet - West Palm Beach , FL

Dear Beth:
A hybrid denture is necessary when you have lost enough bone that now the prosthesis needs to replace not only the teeth, but also the gum tissue that has been lost.
It is normal for food to get trapped under the hybrid denture, and the Waterpik is usually recommended to flush out the large particles in addition to flossing under the hybrid if access for flossing is available.
Brushing the areas accessible with the toothbrush is also necessary.
It is normal to waterpik after every meal.
Good luck!
