Seth asks:
I recently lost my furthest back non-wisdom tooth upper right molar. I'd like to replace it with a dental implant, but finances are tight right now. Is it safe for me to wait several months before I get an implant? Also, should I get a bridge or something else to hold everything in place until then, or just leave it empty? In case it makes any difference, my wisdom teeth were extracted several years ago.

lost upper right molar
Hi Seth. It is a good idea to have this tooth replaced as soon as you can. Often, in the upper back part of the mouth, after extractions, bone will resorb since there is not any tooth to hold on to it. Lack of enough bone there, can lead to need for bone graft at time of implant placement. If your doctor recommended that implant soon, go ahead and do it. i understand finances are tight for you now, but make sure to make this a priority and get it done as soon as you can. for the time being depending upon your bite, your doctor can make you a small flipper to keep other teeth from shifting around. Just know that flipper is a temporary solution.
