Kathy asks:
I need to have my last 4 molars removed and was told I am not a good candidate for implants because of too much bone loss. The oral surgeon I saw said most people in my situation learn to live without molars. I cannot accept that! How would I chew food??? Do I have other option?
Do you feel like a dummy when it comes to dental implants? Don't worry. We can help. Below are popular posts for those just starting out with implants.

No reputable practitioner will comment on your specific situation without a maxillofacial C.T. scan, dental and medical history. With this information, an evaluation of the reconstruction sites can be made.

I Have Too Much Bone Loss: What Are My Options?
Dear Kathy,
With the basic information that Dr. Grossman listed, including a CBCT scan an experienced implantologist can give you several options, but only after carefully evaluating your specific case.
1 - One option that is available for patients with severe bone loss or atrophy is a subperiosteal implant. The procedure allows you to have a denture that is removable for cleaning but is retained and supported by bone.
2 - Another option is grafting to try to rebuild the bone that you have lost. This option would allow you to have fixed teeth instead of a denture on implants.
There are other options, but this gives you an idea of what is possible.
Hope this helps and good luck!
