Darren asks:
I am considering having implants for 2 upper teeth that were removed around 5 years ago. I have been given the impression that it is not possible unless you have recently had an extraction. Is this true? Or am I able to proceed with implants?
Hi Darren,
You can proceed with dental implants if your medical, dental and social history is normal.
It is possible that your dentist diagnosed your implant
sites to have insufficient amount of bone to place the implants. The solution for this anatomical problem is to bone graft the ridge first and wait for the bone to heal and mature. After a standard healing period of 6 months implants can be usually be placed in the newly regenerated bone.
