Hi Kaz,

There is not one recommended extraction implant protocol. There are currently 3 treatment plans: immediate, early and late. It is site and case dependent what a dentist will recommend.

What is very important is that anterior extraction sockets or sockets with thin buccal bone plates be evaluated for the need of a socket bone graft placement to preserve the ridge height and ridge width.

Implant Placement

How long does it take for bone recession to occur after a upper front tooth has been pulled? And does this matter for implant placement? I was told that after 6 weeks the bone starts receding ----- and what techniques does the surgeon use to rectify this when placing the implant. Also what about teeth that have been missing for a 2 years --- what happens to that bone? Will it need grafting? Kind regards Dani
