Bone Graft: How Long Will This Last?
0
votes
Hello, my question is: if I have a lower front ridge augmentation for an absorbed ridge, and don't have 2 implants placed right now, how long would my bone graft last? The periodontist uses allograft bone. I have worn a lower cast partial for 30 yrs. I cannot afford the dental implants after having to pay for the bone graft, but I plan to get implants at a later date.

A bone graft to augment the ridge is usually done to gain width in order to place implants. the graft ideally should be converted ito your own bone and in the process sometimes some of the graft dissappears. Some surgeons anticipating this mix bovine bone with allograft and the bovine bone does nor resorb and maintains the volume better. If your periodontist used allograft alone you can loose some of the graft, the longer the time you take to place the implants. Once the implants are placed, they help maintain the bone level.
I would recommend not waiting too long and getting the implants at the optimal time suggested by your periodontist for best results.
Good luck!
